Arlington Travel Baseball offers our many thanks to our coaches for their dedication and hard work! Our 2017-18 Coaches and Instructors are listed below.
Glenn Swanson (12U Blue Head Coach)
Coach Glen Swanson is a career educator who has worked with alternative students in the District of Columbia as a teacher, principal, and school officer. He has successfully coached youth baseball and basketball in Arlington, Virginia since 1986. Elected to the Arlington Little League Hall of Fame in 1997, he has coached both all star and travel teams featuring multiple players who went on to receive All District and All Region honors while playing at Washington-Lee, Wakefield and Yorktown High Schools.
Coach Swanson has coached each age level with ATB, 9U-12U. He played both baseball and football at Hopkins Eisenhower HS in Minnesota. He moved to Washington, DC in 1979 to attend Georgetown University, where he played four years on the school rugby team and received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.
Andrew Schrock (12U White Head Coach)
Coach Andrew Schrock grew up in Vienna, VA and started his playing career with Vienna Little League. After Little League, he continued playing on various travel teams and at James Madison High School. He was recruited to play at Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, MD where he was a RHP. Throughout High School and College, he helped out with his old Little League team and All-Start team during summer breaks. This is Andrew’s first year coaching with the ATB organization.
Rich Mandleur (11U Blue Head Coach)
Coach Rich Mandleur began coaching baseball in 2008 in Falls Church. He has since gone on to coach regular season and travel teams within ABR, ATB, ALL, and several independent travel teams at both 50/70 and 60/90. Coach Mandleur has also coached several ALL 5070 District 4 Allstar teams including the first ever ALL team to win the D4 tournament and advance to States in 2015. He has also coached teams at Cooperstown Dreams Park for the past 3 summers- two of which advanced to the round of 32. Coach Mandleur is an Arlington Little League (ALL) Board Member, currently the acting Manager’s Committee Chair, and served in the role of Allstar Commissioner for two years prior.
Mark Nersasian (11U White Head Coach)
Coach Mark Nersasian is from Wilmington Delaware where he played baseball for Brandywine Little League. His Little League team was back to back District Champions, State Champions, Mid-Atlantic Regional Champions, and finished 3rd in the Eastern Regional Tournament just shy of the Little League World Series. Mark played Varsity Baseball at Brandywine High School where he was predominantly a catcher and outfielder. His high school team finished 2nd in the State Tournament his sophomore season and came back the following year to win the 2002 State Championship--the first and only baseball title in the school's history. Mark also played American Legion Baseball his junior and senior year. Mark had multiple options to play baseball at the college level (mainly D2 and limited D1),but opted to stay local to his hometown and attend the University of Delaware where I played intramurally. Mark moved to Arlington a year ago and became involved withArlington Little League where he coached with the 9/10 Arlington American All Star Team.
Bobby Blyler (10U Blue Head Coach)
Coach Bobby Blyler is originally from and grew up in the Central Pennsylvania area. He began with District 24/PA Little League and played Varsity baseball at Upper Dauphin Area High School. Bobby played American Legion and Intramural ball during college, where his primary positions were Pitcher and OF/SS. Bobby has been an assistant coach for ATB 9U and 10U teams and a head coach at both the AAA and Majors levels for Arlington Little League since 2013. In 2016 Bobby was the head coach for 9/10 Arlington Little League National All Star team, where he led the team to a 3-2 record in pool play after losing the first two games.
Josh DiDonato (9U Blue Head Coach)
Coach DiDonato grew up in Fairfax, VA starting his baseball career in Fairfax Little League. He played baseball at Robinson Secondary School where he played SS and C. After HS Josh was recruited to play D3 baseball for Hampton Sydney College, where he played SS and LF. In addition to playing baseball Josh started umpiring in 2002 until leaving for college in 2006. In 2011 He coached AAA for Fairfax Little League before moving to the Arlington area. Josh has been coaching for Arlington Little League since 2013 and has coached the 11-12 and 9-10 All Star Teams. This year will be Coach DiDonato's 3rd year as 9U coach, he has led his ATB teams to 9 tournament championship games, winning 7 of them.
Key ATB Instructors
Mike has coached at the high school level for 9 years, with stints at Marshall (where he was the Associate Varsity Head Coach), Bishop O'Connell and Washington-Lee High Schools. He has coached youth baseball for various local organizations, including Falls Church and Arlington Little Leagues, NVTBL, American Legion, Baseball of Northern Va, and most recently with ATB 11U teams. His 2006 Falls Church Little League all-star team went undefeated in District 4 play and was the only team to beat eventual champion Tuckahoe in the Virginia State Tournament. He was the 2007 12U Coach of the Year in the DC area, as selected by the Home Plate Club of Washington. He has been a staff instructor at the Virginia Baseball Club, Pinkman Baseball Academy and Frozen Ropes Baseball Academy.
Mike has two children; his son Greg was a pitcher for Christopher Newport University, where he was a 1st-Team All Region selection; daughter Maggie played outfield for powerhouse Bishop O'Connell, graduating in 2015.
Coach Adam Balutis joined the staff of Washington-Lee High School JV baseball team in 2005 and has been head coach since 2008. He has also been the president of Arlington Little League (ALL) since 2005. Coach Balutis began his coaching career with ALL in 1997 and has continued coaching various regular season, fall tournament teams since. He has taken at least one team to Cooperstown Dreams Park tournament each summer since 2003.
Coach Jackson Clement played Varsity baseball at WT Woodson High School in Fairfax, VA where he graduated in 2007. He attended the University of Mary Washington, where he was a walk on and graduated in 2011. Jackson played all four years on the Mary Washington Varsity baseball team, starting at least one game at every infield and outfield position. During his tenure at Mary Washington, Jackson earned a Rawlings Regional Gold Glove, CAC Player of the Week, 2x First Team All CAC, All Region Selection, 2x Academic All-State Team and the 2011 Mary Washington Scholar Athlete of the Year. He is excited to help develop the next wave of Arlington baseball talent.
Greg Goldsmith, Pitching Instructor
Coach Kyle Padgett is head baseball coach at Bishop O'Connell High School. He has coached at three Division 1 baseball schools over the past 5 years (Duke, William & Mary, and Wake Forest). Prior to beginning his coaching career, he was a standout at William & Mary and a 2005 MLB draft selection. With William & Mary in 2008, Padgett coached an offensive unit that ranked third in the NCAA with a .343 batting average. That group also stole 101 bases and hit 75 home runs while posting a 36-21 overall record.
Coach Padgett has mentored 42 players who have gone on to play professional baseball and one Major League player (Justin Grimm - Texas Rangers), including 13 top-10 round draft picks, and 1 first-round pick (Marcus Stroman, 2012, Toronto Blue Jays). Kyle was a four-year letter winner at William & Mary from 2002-05. He hit .311 as a senior with nine home runs, 15 doubles and a .408 on base percentage and was drafted in the 18th round of the 2005 MLB Draft by the Florida Marlins. Coach Padgett reached High-A with the Marlins in 2006 before beginning his collegiate coaching career in his first stint with William & Mary in 2008.
Coach Jim Ashley has over twenty years experience in youth baseball. He has coached numerous teams at the Little League level in Vienna and Falls Church and also coached in the Arlington Diocesan CYO League. Coach Ashley managed a number of teams for Vienna Babe Ruth, including two all star teams competing in the Oakton Cougar Clash Tournament. He has worked with Cooperstown Dreams Park teams from Falls Church and Arlington for the past ten years. In 2008, Coach Ashley was recognized by Fairfax County as a "Champion of Character" for his work in emphasizing sportsmanship as an integral part of youth baseball. He has served as a Junior Varsity coach for Bishop O'Connell High School and is currently a JV coach at Washington-Lee High School.
Coach John Boyle has 18 years of youth baseball coaching experience. In addition to coaching regular season and All Star teams with Falls Church Kiwanis LIttle League, he is a former president and catching instructor for the league. He has also coached teams with Falls Church Annandale Babe Ruth and Northern Virginia Travel Baseball League. Coach Boyle was a walk-on catcher with the Division 1 University of Virginia Cavaliers and continues to play baseball in various "old guy" adult baseball leagues.
Coach Tim Brown is currently an assistant coach for the Yorktown HS varsity baseball team. Prior to that Tim coached the Falls Church High School's JV Baseball Team for four years. Coach Brown played for TC Williams HS from 2000-2005. He also played for American Legion Post 129 for four years, then coached the team for one year. Coach Brown went to Barton College in Wilson North Carolina where he played Div. 2 baseball for three years while obtaining a Bachelors Degree in History in 2009. He enjoys coaching and passing on the knowledge that he learned throughout his years of playing baseball.
