ATB's Mission
ATB is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization with bylaws and an elected board of directors.
Our mission is to provide youth baseball players in Arlington County, Virginia, an opportunity to acquire superior skills through higher levels of competition.
COMMITMENT
Arlington Travel Baseball is a year round program for 8-12U athletes. Our players are required to play in Arlington Little League (ALL) or Cal Ripken Babe Ruth (CRBR) during the spring season. Our goal is to minimize conflicts between ATB and ALL/CRBR practices and games, and we will work with each player's rec coaches in an effort to achieve this goal.
DEVELOPMENT
Teams are composed of 8U through 12U players who love baseball and want to develop their skills and understanding of the game. ATB prepares players for the challenges of competitive baseball through fundamental training, clinics, game play, and tournaments.
TEAM VALUES
Our culture is all about positive player development, instilling a lifelong love of baseball and emphasizing "safety first." ATB coaches and parents are expected to model positive sportsmanship, teamwork and cooperation, and follow a code of conduct emphasizing this. ATB players are also required to abide by a code of conduct.
ATB's History
September, 2011 – Arlington Travel Baseball (ATB) is officially formed in September in Arlington, Virginia, with a mission to provide Arlington County youth baseball players an opportunity to acquire superior skills through higher levels of competition. Bylaws are adopted and a board of directors is elected. ATB applies to the IRS to be recognized as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization. ATB launches www.ArlingtonTravelBaseball.org.
December, 2011 – ATB and Arlington Youth Baseball Authority (AYBA) begin discussions about Arlington Travel Baseball and its spring season. ATB board president, Mary Ann Klimas; vice president, Richie Pacheco; and secretary Steve Finn present an overview of ATB to Arlington Little League and Cal Ripken Babe Ruth.
January, 2012 – ATB receives notification from the IRS that is officially approved as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
April, 2012 - ATB obtains approval by the Arlington Sports Commission. As a result, the Sports Commission recognizes ATB as an affiliated group. Further, Arlington County Department of Parks and Recreation (PRCR) places ATB on its priority list for athletic field and facility allocation.
June, 2012 - ATB conducts tryouts with players selected for 9U, 10U, 11U and two 12U teams. Practices are underway in August as teams ready for play in the Future State Prospects Baseball League (FSPBL).
December, 2012 - The AYBA passes a motion approving ATB's plans for the spring and summer seasons. ATB is excited to be able to provide a year-round experience for our players.
2013 and beyond - ATB's year round program is underway. In the fall, ATB teams play in the Northern Virginia Travel Baseball League (NVTBL).
2018 - ATB expands its offerings and fields its first 13U program. The 13U program focus is to transition youth athletes to playing on the big field and prepare them to play on Middle and High School teams.
2020 - ATB's 13U and forthcoming 14U program are recognized by Arlington County as county programs.
August, 2021 - Drew Thomson succeeds Richie Pacheco as ATB president.
May, 2024 - ATB's 13U and 14U programs transition to the new Arlington United Baseball organization, and ATB returns to its original 8U-12U age range.
August, 2024 - Julia McBride succeeds Drew Thomson as ATB president.
